Mackerel Men to host World War 1 football re-enactment for veterans charity

It has been announced that on Sunday 14 October, Worthing Football Club will host a special football match in aid of Care for Veterans. This one-off game will be a recreation of a match that was held at the club 100 years ago, between Worthing Ladies' XI and Wounded Soldiers from the Grange Auxiliary Hospital.

The Grand Football Match, as it was also originally called, aims to be as authentic as possible, with WWI themed sounds, dress, atmosphere and refreshments. There will be live music from Lancing Brass Band and 1066 Pipes & Drums marching band, chances to win prizes, and more! All spectators are encouraged to dress-up in period dress from the WWI era, with prizes for the best dressed!

The match will be played between serving soldiers from The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment and Worthing Ladies' Team, on Sunday 14 October. Doors open at 1pm, kick-off will be at 2pm, and tickets will be £4 for adults and £2 for children/concessions.

For almost 100 years they have provided long term nursing care, rehabilitation, respite and award-winning end of life care to disabled ex-Servicemen and women from the RAF, Army, Royal Navy and auxiliary services.
