Angels fall once more, Hawks see off the Blues, and Tanners get back to winning ways- whilst Hayes score their usual five!

Our round up of Tuesday (and Monday) evening's action

On Monday night goals from Charley Barker, Joel Nouble and Scott Durojayie sent Haringey Borough up into second place in the Premier Division, as they defeated Bishop’s Stortford (Luke Callander) 3-1- but their stay in their highest ever league position would have been brief had Tonbridge Angels won at Corinthian-Casuals last night. Angels, however, had lost five of their previous nine matches, and at King George’s Field made it six from ten, after Corinthian-Casuals followed up three successive defeats of their own by getting back to winning ways. Reece Hannigan gave the home side the lead, only for Joe Turner to score his seventh goal of the season to pull Angels level just after the break. Warren Mfula had the last word in the 73rd minute, finishing a cross from Max Oldham to send Casuals ninth- only three points behind their visitors.

Leatherhead had also seen their good form escape them of late, suffering three successive defeats, but they got themselves back to winning ways with a goal in each half at Merstham, who were unable to reply. Ibrahim Olutade got the first, whilst Shaun Okojie made the game safe thirteen minutes from time, to take the Tanners up to fourteenth, four points clear of their hosts.

Three points- and three places- further up the table are Potters Bar Town, for whom Bradley Sach got the only goal of the game at AFC Hornchurch. The Urchins- for whom Lewwis Spence was sent off late on- are now eighteenth, after an alarming slide down the table that has seen them take only four points from the last thirty- and those all from draws. Hornchurch are now only one point clear of third bottom Harlow Town, the Hawks having now picked up ten points from their last fifteen, last night getting all three as Louis Yuill and Emile Aqcuah scored the only two goals of the game midway through the first half.

Lewes entertain Brightlingsea Regent at the Dripping Pan this evening, and a two goal victory could send them top of the table. Indeed, it is worth noting that there are only five points between first and eighth!

In the South Central Division Hayes & Yeading United went into last night’s match with Westfield averaging 3.76923076923077 goals a game- and now it’s up to 3.85714285714286 (perhaps we can just call it four?) after they walloped five past a Westfield side who previously had four straight victories. This was the eighth time in all competitions this season that United had scored five or more goals, and they all came in the last hour of the match, Westfield holding out until the thirty first minute before Hassan Jalloh scored his first of two. Toby Little and Ash Nzala made it three-nil before the break, whilst Jalloh’s second made it four with twenty three minutes remaining. Kiye Martin got one back for the visitors, but it was to be a mere consolation as Josh Chamberlain made it five right at the end. United sit in second place, a point behind leaders Marlow but with two matches in hand.

The South East Division saw two matches- and two surprises. Firstly, Horsham- who hadn’t lost in nine matches and had won eight of them- travelled to neighbours Three Bridges and fell to a late defeat, Connor French grabbing the winner in the 89th minute. French had originally given his side the lead almost half an hour earlier, but Chris Smith got an equaliser for the Hornets 22 minutes from time. Bridges climb to eleventh.

Hythe Town hadn’t lost a home match all season until defeat by Horsham on Saturday, and now it’s two defeats in two as Greenwich Borough continued to climb the table. They had to come from behind to win; in this battle of the Cannons Charlie Webster gave the home side a first half lead, but two goals in quick succession from Ryan King-Elliott and Laurent Mendy midway through the second half were enough to give Borough victory- and lift them to sixteenth.
