Are Billericay Town the best Step Three side in the country?

By Ian Townsend

It seems so- with Hamlet and Hendon not far behind!

Those of you who follow the Non-League game on social media will undoubtedly have heard of the Twitter feed named Non League Crowds. Big supporters of our work at the Bostik League, the folk at Non League Crowd not only share our articles and publicise our clubs, they also- as might perhaps be suggested by their name- are very focused on Non League statistics, regularly writing attendance round ups whilst comparing and contrasting attendances across the entire spectrum of our game.

Today they went a step further and decided to calculate points per match across the different levels of the Non League pyramid, and the results made interesting reading, as at Step Three three of our clubs featured in the top ten; in first, third and tenth. If the Non League Crowds calculations are correct- and they've always proved reliable in the past- then Billericay Town are the best performing side at this level in the entire country, with an average of 2.59 points per match.

Dulwich Hamlet come in third, with 2.21, whilst Hendon are in joint tenth with 1.88.

The entire top ten looks like this:

2.59 Billericay Town
2.33 Hereford
2.21 Dulwich Hamlet
2.19 Altrincham
2.14 Slough Town
2.11 Kings Lynn Town
2.07 Kettering Town
2.00 Swaw Lane AFC/ Weymouth
1.88 Hendon/Warrington Town

This puts Billericay Town in eighth place across the entirity of Steps 1-6.

They also did an analysis for Step Four, and we had three teams on that list too; AFC Hornchurch in fourth, Lewes in eighth, and Cray Wanderers in tenth. Here's the top ten countdown:

2.62 Basford United
2.52 Taunton Town
2.43 South Shields
2.36 AFC Hornchurch
2.28 AFC Rushden and Diamonds
2.22 Scarborough Athletic
2.19 Hyde United
2.17 Lewes
2.16 Beaconsfield Town
2.14 Cray Wanderers/Bamber Bridge

Please give Non League Crowds a follow, if you don't follow them already.
