Beckingham hails players for positive start

New manager Tony Beckingham has hailed his East Grinstead Town squad for the positive start they've made to his second spell in charge at the Ryman South's Wasps.

Beckingham's side have picked up four points in the two Ryman South games since he took over from former boss Simon Funnell nearly two weeks ago, a 0-0 draw at East Court against Whitstable Town on Saturday and a 1-0 win in his first game in charge at Tooting & Mitcham United the previous weekend.

Beckingham, who previously managed the club between February 2010 and October 2011, says the players have reacted well in the short time since he returned as he prepares them for their third outing under his guidance this Saturday, Redhill at home in Ryman South action.

The 48-year-old former Holmesdale, Lingfield, Phoenix Sports and Croydon manager told www.eastgrinsteadcourier.co.uk on Monday: "I can only go on results but clearly something has sunk in and it has been a good reaction. The players have been used to working with Simon [Funnell] but they know that we are all in this together. We are all working to pull ourselves out of trouble and I have been pleased with four points in two games."

Funnell took the helm at East Court in October 2011 and last season led the Wasps to second place in the Sussex County League and promotion to Ryman South. His three year reign ended by 'mutual consent' after his final game at the helm, a 2-1 home win over Carshalton Athletic.
