Billericay close the gap

Blues win second match of the week to close on Hamlet

Billericay Town last night won their second match in 48 hours to close the gap on leaders Dulwich Hamlet to two points, with victory over Harrow Borough.

Only once this season has Jake Robinson ended up on the losing side when scoring, so it was odds-on that when the striker notched his forty ninth goal of the season in the 66th minute of the match- played at Aveley FC- that the outcome was going to be favourable for the Blues. Robinson described the strike as his 'ugliest goal of the season,' but it was soon followed by a slightly prettier second by Luke Rooney- from a lay-off by Monday evening centurion Billy Bricknell- and this finally ended Borough's stubborn resistance.

Billericay still have three matches in hand on the leaders. Folkestone Invicta, in third, have the same number of points as the Blues, but have played four matches more.

Tonight sees three matches in the North Division, one of which may have real significance in the chase for the playoff positions as Heybridge Swifts play their eighth game in sixteen days. Jody Brown's side entertain Canvey Island, and victory will take them above local rivals Maldon & Tiptree into sixth place.

Elsewhere, Brentwood Town entertain Grays Athletic, whilst Ware- assuming their pitch has recovered after Tuesday evening's match had to be switched to Potters Bar Town- will be hoping to pull themselves further away from the relegation spot as Aveley visit Wodson Park. Update- matches at Brentwood and Ware have been called off, waterlogged pitches

There is one match in the South Division, as Chipstead host South Park.
