Bloor hails double deal

Lewes

Lewes signed George Branford and Steve Brinkhurst for the new Ryman Premier campaign ahead of their trip to Hastings United on Saturday.

Former loanee Branford has been on trial in pre-season while Brinkhurst has been recovering from a knee injury and proved his fitness before signing. Branford, 19, made ten appearances on loan at the Dripping Pan from Portsmouth before being released by the League Two giants at the end of last season.

Lewes were delighted to sign the pair on Friday and are still looking at James Stinson, the former Eastbourne Borough defender and midfielder.

Ahead of Saturday's 2-1 defeat at The Pilot Field, assistant-manager Danny Bloor said: "It was a two-way thing with George. We wanted to look at him in pre-season and he needed to work out what he was going to do. He is a good player but he has still got plenty to learn.

"Brinky has had a good pre-season and he gives us options in a number of positions. A 100 per cent Steve Brinkhurst is a Conference South player, not a Ryman Premier player, so we are happy to have him."
