Borg in line to succeed Holdsworth

The 55-year-old took the helm in Devon on Saturday in the FA Trophy when the Blues lost 3-2 at Bideford after former Bolton Wanderers and Wimbledon striker Holdsworth stepped down on Wednesday after just five months at the helm, citing his increasing business interests.

The 47-year-old, the chief executive of the Non-League Footballers Association is being linked with heading up a consortium looking to buy Bolton Wanderers but is expected to stay on at the the Essex club as director of football.

Holdsworth made history during his short spell at the helm, taking the club to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time before being knocked out by Didcot Town, the lowest ranked team at the time.Holdsworth leaves the club in 20th place in the Premier Division, with six wins from their seventeen games to date.

Borg, 55, who has been coaching at Town, last managed at Enfield in 2014 after previously guiding Barking, Chelmsford City, Chesham United, Harrow Borough, Enfield, Aldershot Town, Billericay Town, Hornchurch and Braintree Town.

Holdsworth, who left the club in 20th place in the Ryman's top flight with six wins from 17 games, told the Brentwood Gazette: "I've really enjoyed working with a great chairman and people at the club, the players have been superb. I still remain at the club in a role in which I can be involved, I didn't want to let them down due to other commitments."
