Bostik Manager of the Month Awards- sponsored by Anderson Travel- January 2019

The winners of the January Manager of the Month Awards- sponsored by the fabulous folk at Anderson Travel- have just been announced. Here are our victors:

Premier

Nobody should be surprised by our Premier Division winner for January. Merstham swept all before them, and flew up the table with victories over Enfield Town, Worthing, Wingate & Finchley, Carshalton Athletic and AFC Hornchurch. Congratulations go to Hayden Bird and his band of merry Moatsiders.

North

Canvey Island haven’t had the season they would have hoped for, but things began to turn around for the Gulls in January. Basildon United, Mildenhall Town, Barking and Grays Athletic came, saw and were conquered, and indeed only Bury Town got as much as a point as Mark Bentley’s men swept all before them. Well done to Mark, and all at the Frost Hire Stadium.

South Central

Yet again there was only one contender for this award. Top scorers not only in the Bostik South Central Division but in the country, January saw Hayes & Yeading United do something surprising- they dropped two points when they let Ashford Town score a late equaliser. Mind you, the rest of the time they were defeating Chipstead, Tooting & Mitcham United, and Chalfont St Peter- twice. Our award goes, as it tends to every month, to Paul Hughes and his Skyex cavaliers.

South East

Cray Wanderers have done all neutrals a disservice this season, turning the South East Division into something of a procession. It might be too early to focus only on who finishes second to fifth, but the gap between Cray and the rest seems to grow every week, and much of the praise must go to their manager Tony Russell. In January Cray beat Three Bridges, East Grinstead Town and VCD Athletic, before showing a little humanity by allowing Faversham Town to escape with a point!
