Bostik Supporters Predictions 18/19: Aveley

By Ian Townsend

Millers fan Fred Taylor takes us on a tour of Parkside.

We asked supporters of our Bostik League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Aveley fan Fred Taylor sings the praises of Parkside- and its CEO.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Parkside from above!

Parkside from above!

My favourite moment was seeing the transformation of a team that couldn’t put two passes together. After the sacking of the previous incumbent Craig Johnson CEO took over in a caretaker role for two games (before new manager James Webster arrived) in the FA Trophy. The first was a hard earned draw, but no one could envisage what was to come- a massive 5-3 extra time win over Marlow which brought cheers to the club not seen in the season so far.

In James Webster’s time, beating Potters Bar up there on a mud heap in a very frenetic, physical game, and us with just ten men- it was a triumphant victory.

2. And your worst moment?

The 0-5 home defeat v Maldon & Tiptree FC. It came after a long unbeaten run and a few 3-0 wins and losses in consecutive games- but no excuses, we got it wrong. Maldon & Tiptree were quick to spot the weaknesses and the rest is history.

3. How will you do this season?

That is a difficult question; having played many teams two leagues above during pre-season is good for bringing in the crowds (a massive crowd for the Billericay game) but not for fans making assessments of our team’s fortunes in the season ahead.

Parkside Fred!

Parkside Fred!

We’re coming up to a few friendlies against clubs from similar levels, so assessing our fortunes will perhaps get easier.

A top 10 place would be good, but I trust in our management team and I am sure they will get it right and bring us the top 5 finish they wish for.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Local derbies are always good value, but we love a coach journey and our jaunts to the far North of our Division are such fun times. Add in the new clubs at Coggeshall Town (they look strong) and Felixstowe and Walton- these are eye catching matches too.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Enjoyed Haringey Borough; the hospitality was superb, very friendly crowd and committee, especially the singers- they enjoyed our banter! Nice ground and entertaining football too, shame about the result!

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

As many of our players have come through the youth ranks at Brentwood many would think maybe they are our biggest rivals, however I consider rivalry as competition on the field, so for me any of the top teams are where we need to set the bar for our own ambitions, so they are our RIVALS.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Give yourself time to explore the ground; there is so much about Parkside that is eye opening, even before the game starts. What we have is a fantastic facility for both supporters and players and everyone can get something out of their visits, the atmosphere (with the newly formed choir and drum is going to be something special), spectator comfort is very good, seating with good leg room; food bar is well stocked and enjoyable. The splendour of the Parkside Suite is an eye opener- almost ½ the length of the pitch, plenty of room to relax prior to and after the game with a nice cool beer, with 4 large TV’s and the Big Screen which has seen some use in the recent World Cup. The Suite also has an upper level which gives great viewing overlooking the pitch.

For the players, modern up to date changing and treatment areas, the 3G 4th Generation pitch (our very own carpet of dreams) is a pleasure for them to play on, add in the LED floodlights which are instant with the flick of a switch, it completes a very pretty picture of Parkside. ENJOY YOUR VISIT! (see pic)

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?
Craig Johnson has played, managed, been general dog’s body, committee member and now the CEO and after overseeing our recent move from Mill Field to Parkside, will be driving the bus with intent as we grow in stature. Craig has spent a lifetime at the club and his devotion sees us where we are now so there is no one more deserving.

Paul Franklin, who is recorded as the player with most appearances, and Tolo Mas are worthy of note, but didn’t have the energy Craig has in abundance.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?
Heybridge Swifts, Coggeshall Town, Bowers & Pitsea, Aveley and Dereham Town.
