Bostik Supporters Predictions 18/19: Northwood

Robin Piper introduces Northwood, and two different Captain Fantastics!

We asked supporters of our Bostik League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Robin Piper takes us to all points North (wood).

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Robin Piper and a shirt of 1998 vintage!

Robin Piper and a shirt of 1998 vintage!

Winning the penultimate game of the season against Hanwell Town (sorry Mooro) for our first win since January- and the first for interim manager Gordon Boateng.

2. And your worst moment?

Undeservedly losing at Swindon Supermarine with the last kick of the game in the FA Cup preliminary round.

3. How will you do this season?

We go into the new season with a new squad with good potential but with a number of players unproven at step 4. With a new, young and progressive manager at the helm in the shape of Dean Barker we are hopeful that we can re-establish ourselves in the Isthmian league with a solid, top half finish. A few wins in the FA Cup and Trophy would also be nice! Lots of good things happening off the pitch with new media team and spruced up clubhouse as examples, so exciting times ahead.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

As well as reacquainting ourselves with some of our old Isthmian friends, looking forward to playing Chipstead, FC Romania, South Park & Westfield for the first time.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Looking forward to visiting Tooting & Mitcham's Imperial Fields having last played them when they were at their Sandy Lane ground. Marlow is always a pleasant outing, old school ground and a punt on the Thames! Also, anywhere with good retail potential including charity shops for the Missus!

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Our west London neighbours Hayes & Yeading, Uxbridge, Hanwell Town and Chalfont St Peter due to their proximity and the number of former players you often come up against. Also, it’s always good to lock horns with Northwood's most successful manager, Tony Choules, who has been in the hot seat at Uxbridge for a number of years. Likewise with Hanwell Town now under the direction of former Woods' favourites Chris Moore and Wayne Carter.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Leave the car at home and make the trip by tube - Northwood Hills station a 10 mins walk away- so that you can enjoy a drink in the friendly surrounds of the refurbished clubhouse. Also, for music trivia fans, Northwood Hills tube station and the Northwood Hills Hotel opposite (now the Namaste Lounge) feature on the inside sleeve of Elton John's album 'Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy;' Elton grew up locally and played his first paid gigs at the pub aged 15.
The footpath to ground is down the side of pub.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

The club has had many great players down the years, exciting strikers such as Martin Ellis, Lawrence Yaku, Steve Hale, Scott Fitzgerald & Chris Moore to name a few. But for me, one name stands alone, with a record 489 appearances and 85 goals from midfield, the other 'Captain Fantastic', club legend Chris Gell.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Hayes & Yeading United, Cheshunt, Waltham Abbey, Tooting & Mitcham United, Westfield.

Where next?

Towners bring in FOUR- whilst Invicta sign a striker from a local rival Enfield and Folkestone strengthen significantly as the big kick off approaches
