Bostik Supporters Preview 17/18: Greenwich Borough

For our next supporter preview we head down to the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Elliot Byrne is our guide.

Bostik Supporters Preview 17/18: Greenwich Borough

We asked a supporter from each of our member clubs to answer the same series of questions as part of our preview of the new season. We also asked them to predict how their particular division would finish, from one to 24- and their answers will be revealed in a collection of Supporters Prediction Tables to be released the day before the big kick off.

Here are the answers of Elliot Byrne for Greenwich Borough.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

It was a good debut season in the Isthmian South last season with a number of good moments, the 3-1 win over Ramsgate whilst being down to 9 men springs to mind but my personal highlight was the last-gasp winner over league leaders Tooting & Mitcham in December. The manner in which we beat such a good team made it really special.

2. And what was the worst moment?

As the best moment paragraph contains '9 men' and 'Tooting & Mitcham', naturally one of the worst moments was the 1-0 defeat to 9 man Tooting & Mitcham to essentially end our title hopes in January, but my personal choice for the very worst moment would the 4-3 playoff semi-final defeat to Corinthian Casuals. To have finished on 95 points and then lose the way we did, it was a tough pill to swallow.

3. How will you do this season?

I have been really impressed with the summer dealings by the club. While losing players like Mohamed Eisa to Cheltenham was a blow, we've brought in a number of young, talented players as well as the experienced figure of Mark Phillips to strengthen, all of whom should blossom under our talented manager Gary Alexander. While I don't want to make any outlandish predictions as there are lots of good teams in this division, I am sure that the Borough will be challenging again this season.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to- and why?

The natural one to look to is the games against Corinthian Casuals as they were the only side to do the double over us last season so we want to set that right, but I'm also looking forward to visiting the new teams this season such as Phoenix Sports.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

I travelled to Phoenix Sports when I was working at Thamesmead Town and thought they had a lovely ground, so I am looking forward to visiting that ground again.
6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

There isn't anyone I'd consider to be a 'main rival' but after the results to Corinthian Casuals last season, I think there is a friendly desire to exact revenge this season! Fourth time lucky eh?

7. What advice would you give to an away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Arrive early. We have a decent car park but it could fill up quickly, and we have a decent bar so there is a way to occupy yourself before kick-off!

8. Who is your favourite player (for your club) of all time- and why?

It would be cliche to say Ian Wright, given the incredible success he went on to achieve after the Borough, but I enjoyed watching Robert Denness play last season. A player that added a different dimension to the squad, its a shame that injury hampered the second half of his season as he would have added a lot more goals and assists to his already impressive tally.

9. Finally, predict who will fill the top five positions at the end of the forthcoming season:

Greenwich Borough, Hastings Utd, Corinthian Casuals, Hythe Town, Cray Wanderers.

Where next?
