Brady: Karagiannis right to return

Ryman Premier Leatherhead welcomed Vas Karagiannis back from Conference South side Hayes & Yeading after the winger took the decision to cut short his chance to play at a higher level.

According to Tanners manager Richard Brady, the Greek-born player, pictured, returned to Fetcham Grove last Friday in time to turn out in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Margate after finding out that 'the grass is not always greener' on the other side.

Brady told www.richmondandtwickenhamtimes.co.uk: "I see a lot of players who think they can play at a higher level, and you cannot blame them for wanting to. But they often think that the grass is greener on the other side, when it is not the case.

"I don’t mean to blow our own trumpet, but we have a good set up at Leatherhead, we have a good training ethic and our style of play really suited Vas. He phoned me on the Friday before the Margate game, and he went on the bench and came on in the second half."

He added: "I don’t think he fully appreciated the commitment that is involved in joining a Conference South side, and the travelling was not favourable."

The 22-year-old had made just a couple of appearances for the Conference South club after his early season performances earned him a switch to Phil Babb`'s side at the start of the October.

Karagiannis arrived in the UK to sign for Welling United in February 2014 from FC Chambly in France before moving to Leatherhead in the summer.
