#BringGraysAthHome!

Grays supporters raise funds to highlight their plight

Parkside is a lovely place to play- and watch- football. The facilities are magnificent, the sightlines are great wherever you decide to sit or stand, the parking is excellent, it's five minutes from the motorway, and unless there is heavy snowfall you can almost guarantee that any game to be played there will go ahead.

But if you happen to be a supporter of Grays Athletic, your appreciation of Parkside will always be tinged with regret. It may be beautiful, but it isn't home.

After eight years without a place of their own, a number of Grays supporters have begun to raise awareness and support in their community for their hoped return to their home town. The #BringGraysAthHome campaign is also trying to raise funds- not to purchase a stadium but to buy promotional materials to provide a physical presence of their plight in their home town. You can visit their crowd funding page here.

The club are in discussion with Thurrock Council to identify land which can accomodate them, but it could be a long road and will require local public support. As the organisers of the campaign state:

'Even without a stadium, the club has continued to field a strong set of teams. With over 500 players registered on their books ranging from youth teams to girls teams, walking football to the senior side, it’s time they were given the opportunity to exist within the town they represent.

Therefore, this is a call to arms. To people within Thurrock and Grays itself, the time is right to push for a stadium that benefits all the region, giving pride back to Thurrock. To players and fans, this is your club and you deserve to have a permanent home, living without uncertainty.'

We'd like to wish the club and its supporters the very best of luck in their efforts. And you can read more at the club website, here.
