Can Billericay close the gap? Will the Urchins bounce back? Can the Rooks soar once more?

Here's our preview of the weekend's action!

We’ve- weather willing- an exciting programme of fixtures to look forward to this weekend. You can look at the full list HERE, and if you’re a neutral you’re spoiled for choice, but we thought we’d give you a little preview to help you decide!

Premier Division

Billericay Town sit in second place in the Premier Division, five points behind Dulwich Hamlet with a massive eight games in hand- and the statistics state that they are the form team in the division, too. But that’s the problem with statistics. Town have ground out win after win (with the odd draw thrown in for good measure), but they haven’t managed to start a league match since 6th January, with postponement after postponement calling a halt to their progress. They travel to second bottom Tooting & Mitcham United, and whilst you might think that looks a guaranteed blue win you’d probably have thought the same the last time the two sides met in late September- and it took an added time goal to give the Blues three points. Head along to Imperial Fields and see whether the Terrors can bring some terror to Billericay- and in doing so help out their arch-rivals at Dulwich Hamlet.

Hamlet have been below par of late, and instead of taking advantage of Billericay’s weather-related absence have lost their last three matches. Sammy Moore’s Leatherhead are unlikely to give them much respite at Fetcham Grove, although they followed seven straight wins recently with a draw and a defeat- so we’ll see which Tanners turn up. On the day that Billericay were struggling against Tooting, Hamlet were having far fewer problems against Leatherhead, three first half goals setting them on the way to a 4-0 victory.

Perhaps the most attractive match of the day sees seventh place Hendon host third place Folkestone Invicta at Silver Jubilee Park. Last season both of these sides diced with disaster at the wrong end of the table, but their form this season has been exceptional and this one looks too close to call. The form guide places these sides third and fourth, both earning thirteen points from their last six matches with only one defeat. The Greens triumphed the last time the sides met, by the odd goal in five.

At the bottom of the table Burgess Hill Town, undoubtedly filled with confidence after their midweek win over Harlow Town, could climb off the basement if they win and Worthing lose at Wingate & Finchley. The Hillians travel to Tonbridge Angels, where Steve McKimm’s side will hope to continue their solid home form against a team with only one away win all season, whilst Worthing are at home, but need to beware as Wingate & Finchley are in second place in the form table that covers the last ten games, and have taken some mighty big scalps during that period.

North Division:

Leaders AFC Hornchurch look to have a home banker against Norwich United in 21st, but must be wary. Not only did they slip up at home to Barking earlier this week, but the visitors are in fine form- seven matches unbeaten and steadily climbing the table. Barking follow up that victory by hosting fourth place Dereham Town and will be hoping for another scalp to get their play-off hopes back on track after a miserable last few weeks, whilst third place Canvey Island travel to second bottom Romford.

Witham Town, the form team over the last six matches, will entertain superfan James (and many congratulations on your engagement James and Claire) by taking on Ware, whilst the other standout match is undoubtedly the clash between fifth place Potters Bar Town and Bowers & Pitsea in second. Bowers have bounced back after two defeats to win their last three, whilst the Scholars have seven points from the last nine.

South Division

You don’t have to look hard to find the South Division’s match of the day- you just need to direct your gaze towards the Dripping Pan, where leaders Lewes entertain fourth place Walton Casuals. Last weekend the Rooks ended Cray Wanderers enormous unbeaten run, but Casuals will be another massive test as they’ve lost only once during their last ten matches.

Greenwich Borough have seemingly shaken off Gary Alexander’s departure- and the loss of some key players- and should be expected to claim three more points as they entertain rock bottom Shoreham- but the Musselmen will be reminded that they picked up three points the last time the two sides met, a Dan Simmons penalty ten minutes from the end giving them victory.

Cray Wanderers in second travel to Herne Bay, whilst third place Carshalton Athletic start life without star striker Mickel Miller by taking a trip to Phoenix Sports. Sports lost to a last minute goal at Faversham Town last weekend but had won their previous three and will be no pushovers.

Sixth place Corinthian-Casuals have been a little inconsistent of late, but will hope to get back on track as Faversham Town travel to King George’s Fields.
