On Saturday, as Haringey Borough defeated Poole Town to get to the First Round of the FA Cup for the very first time in their history- you can read about how they did it here- they were watched by a crowd of just over 400. In the next round they’ll undoubtedly have a far larger crowd inside the ground- but they’ll also be joined by millions from elsewhere, as their match with AFC Wimbledon will be shown live on BBC2.
This will be Borough’s first live TV experience (if you discount Manager Tom and Chairman Aki’s appearance at the draw on Monday night). That milestone could, however, have happened last season, when the club turned down the BBC’s request to screen their FA Cup Qualifying tie with Heybridge Swifts on their red button service as it would have clashed with their community car boot sale. Luckily the Beeb have asked to move the visit of the Dons to Friday night, avoiding the boot sale on a Saturday morning!
The match will kick off at 7.55 PM on Friday 9th November. We’ll bring you ticket details once we have them, as football on TV is all well and good, but there’s no substitute for actually being there. You might want to take your earplugs, though- they’re a noisy bunch at Coles Park!
