Champions honour veteran defender

Ryman South champion Josh Vincent was looking forward to leading Folkestone Invicta out against Maidstone in his testimonial match on Tuesday night.

Invicta were set to honour the right-back with a 7.45pm kick off at the Fullicks Stadium for racking up more than 350 appearances for Invicta since making his first-team debut during the 2008-09 season.

The 26-year-old defender has racked up more than 350 appearances for Invicta since making his first-team debut during the 2008-09 season.

Born in Elham and now living locally, the 26-year-old calls the club home and is the latest member of manager Neil Cugley's long-serving back-four to earn a testimonial after Liam Friend in 2014 and Frankie Chappell in 2015 were both honoured.

Vincent told kentonline.co.uk: "I’m quite a shy bloke so a night all about me isn’t really what I like. I got in the first team when I was 17 and only missed half a season when I had an injury. Other than that, I’ve played nearly all the games along with Friendy and Chappell."

Looking ahead to the new season in the Ryman League's top flight, he added: "This year, a big aim would be to finish in the top half of the table. I think I’ve got a point to prove. I want to stay with Folkestone and I want to see if I can still handle the Ryman Premier."

Before kick-off Cugley said: “Josh has been a terrific servant for this club and I hope that he gets the kind of night he deserves.”
