The Ryman League’s clubs are being invited to support Prostate Cancer UK on Non-League Day 2014.

Football clubs from across Non-League are gearing up to take part in the annual event on Saturday 6 September after the charity was chosen as this season’s good cause.

Through the charity’s ‘Men United v Prostate Cancer’ campaign, Prostate Cancer UK are targeting fans to raise awareness of the disease which affects one in eight men and kills over 10,000 a year.

Thousands of pounds are set to be raised by generous fans at matches and the charity wants to hear from clubs who are running events or would be happy to let their volunteers attend to fundraise among the bumper crowds expected to support their local clubs again this season.

Non-League Day originally started as a social media experiment in 2010 to help clubs take advantage of the traditional September international break to showcase their facilities and football by offering free or discounted entry to season ticket holders from the Football League and Premier League.

With England taking on Switzerland in a European Championship qualifying curtain-raiser, clubs in all three divisions of the Ryman League are looking forward to welcoming new supporters with the weekend off who are expected to take advantage of the scheme. Other popular promotions set to be run again by many clubs include offering free entry to off duty members of the armed forces and the emergency services.

James Doe, founder of Non-League Day, said: "We hope that Non-League clubs and their supporters will also wish to adopt Prostate Cancer UK as a charity for the day and look forward to hearing from any who would like to host themed events or fundraising activities."
