Christmas donations start for needy

By David Watters

Guernsey FC's fans kicked off the club's festive efforts for their annual Christmas Foodbank before Sunday's clash with Lewes in Ryman South.

The crowd of 636 at Footes Lane donated items of non-perishable food at the turnstiles before seeing their side slip to a 4-2 defeat.

The Greens Lions are hoping to help less fortunate members of their community for the fourth year running since the club was founded by handing out food parcels to those in need in the run-up to Christmas.

According to GFC director John Loveless, who's organises the annual food bank, every small gesture will make a big difference to many local families over the festive period.

He said: “This will be the fourth year of the food bank where the generosity of our fans has enabled needy families in the island to enjoy a better Christmas. The distributors of the food parcels have often been very touched by comments received back."
