Community group are new sponsors

By David Watters

MAPS, the service for people in Kent with learning disabilities, are the new sponsors of Ryman South Chatham Town's U21s.

As part of their work in the community, the Chats have been already working with MAPS for the last two seasons before unveiling the group this week as their new front of shirt sponsors for the remainder of the campaign, pictured.

Established in 2009 to provide activities and opportunities for people with learning disabilities, the club's partnership with MAPS has seen the group hosting activity sessions at The Sports Ground and growing numbers of members attending home and away games.

MAPS supporters and volunteers led by director Mark Spurgeon are now planning to follow the club's U21s after being given the opportunity to get more involved in the club and make a difference via their new sponsorship partnership.

Chatham Town director Steve Binks said: "Mark, his daughter Rachel, and a group of MAPS members have become not only some of our most enthusiastic supporters, but also an inspiration.

"You can’t help be inspired by their infectious enthusiasm and support, not only for the football club, but especially their dedication in setting up multiple enjoyable activities for their members.

"Some members also particularly enjoy the coaching and football sessions laid on by Mark and MAPS are also looking into setting up a disability football team together with help from Chatham Town and the Kent FA."
