Former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City midfielder Steve Daley will be the guest speaker at Margate’s inaugural 1896 Dinner.

Daley, who kicked off his career at Wolves, moved to Manchester City after playing over 200 times for the Midlands club for a British record transfer fee at the time of £1.4 million.

The 61-year-old, pictured, went on to manage in Non-League at Telford United, Bromsgrove Rovers and Bilston Town after finally hanging up his boots following spells at Lye Town and Kettering Town. Before retiring he also turned out for Burnley, Walsall and the San Diego Sockers in the United States.

Gate officials say they are ‘delighted’ to have booked him as the guest speaker for the first of a series of regular 1896 Dinners planned at Hartsdown Park on Friday 10 October.

The events will include a three course meal, guest speaker and a question and answer session with tickets for the first going on sale at the club’s shop on Saturday before kick off against Barton Rovers in the FA Cup’s Second Qualifying Round. From Monday, they will also be available from the club’s reception during office hours.

Three tables of seven priced at £275 are going on sale with Daley, Margate manager Terry Brown and his assistant Stuart Cash enjoying dinner as an eighth guest on each table. Individual tickets are also available at £24.75 per person or £23 to Margate’s season ticket holders.
