Thamesmead Town chairman Terry Hill is standing down after more than two decades of involvement with the Ryman North club.

Hill, pictured, stepped up from director of football to take over as manager in 1995 and won the Kent Senior Trophy in 2002, the club's first ever senior cup, in his last season in charge of the first team.

He later took the helm as chairman and in a statement thanking him for his devotion to the club over the years in a number of roles, officials wished him well and said they were looking forward to welcoming him back into boardroom at Bayliss Avenue in the near future.

The club said: "It is with regret that Thamesmead Town Football Club confirm that club chairman Terry Hill has announced that he is standing down from his position.

"The club would like to thank Terry for his undaunted support down the years and wish him and Chris [Hill's wife Chris] all the very best for the future, and look forward to welcoming both of them to the SCT boardroom for many years to come."

Explaining his reasons for standing down, Hill said: “After 22 years at TTFC, I have finally decided to call it a day and hang my boots up. It was a tough decision, but one I had to make.

“I have a few issues, which basically have stopped me enjoying coming to football. Everyone will appreciate that If you don’t enjoy something, what is the point of doing it?”

"I have made some great friends and met some lovely people along the way and will always support Thamesmead Town Football Club as we move into a new era. I see the club's future going forward under Paul Bowden Brown and wish everyone well."

He added: "But the person I want to thank most is my wife Chris. For putting up with all my sulks when we lost and celebrated with me when we won.”
