Dinner date with World Cup winner

Tonbridge Angels are looking forward to a World Cup winner entertaining their fans later this season as they target winning promotion from the Ryman Premier.

The Angels announced on Friday that Sir Geoff Hurst MBE is heading to the Longmead Stadium on Friday 14 October as the nation continues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of England winning the World Cup in 1966.

Sir Geoff, who famously scored a hat-trick in England's 4-2 victory over West Germany in the final at Wembley, won't be the only MBE on stage at the club's events marquee with Angels vice-president, Bob 'The Cat' Bevan MBE, compering the night.

Widely hailed as Britain’s leading after-dinner speaker, he is one of the few people to have been honoured by HM the Queen for after-dinner speaking. In June, the author, comic, journalist, scriptwriter, speechwriter and broadcaster co-hosted the Ryman League's annual end of season banquet and ball at the Hilton Hotel Wembley.

Now 74, former West Ham striker and Chelsea manager Sir Geoff is still the only man to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final after his heroics at the old Wembley in 1966.

Tickets, which include dinner, are priced at £45 and are expected to sell out quickly. For more information call Phil Emblen on 07784 940145.
