Dodds departs before big game

By David Watters

Guernsey will host promotion-chasing Hastings United on Sunday without captain Jamie Dodds after he left the Ryman South's Green Lions before their big game at the weekend.

Appointed as skipper this season, the 28-year-old left on Friday as Tony Vance's Channel Islanders prepared to avoid setting an unwanted new record of five straight losses at Footes Lane in the 2pm kick-off.

The experienced Dodds did not feature in the club's 4-1 defeat at home to Corinthian-Casuals on Wednesday night after starting in their two previous reverses against Ramsgate and Godalming Town.

In a statement on their website with the latest weekend team news for fans and confirming the player's sudden departure after more than 200 appearances for the club, the Greens Lions said: "Jamie Dodd's decision to step away has been well publicised in the local media. The club may comment in due course."
