Draw kicks off league cup!

By David Watters

Holders Kingstonian are looking forward to hosting Ryman Premier rivals Merstham after the draw was made for the first round of the Alan Turvey Trophy sponsored by Robert Dyas.

The Ks - 5-0 winners over Faversham Town in May's final at Carshalton Athletic's Colston Avenue - are preparing to meet Merstham at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday 22 August following Friday's draw for the 2016-17 competition at the Ryman League's headquarters in Dartford.

Aveley, Carshalton Athletic and VCD Athletic, along with their respective visitors Greenwich Borough, Molesey and Chatham Town, kick off this season's cup competition in the first of the first round ties to be played on Monday 21 August.

The Isthmian League Cup was sponsored for the first time three seasons ago by Robert Dyas, a subsidiary of the Isthmian League's title sponsors Ryman, and was renamed the Alan Turvey Trophy before the start of last season in tribute to former Ryman League chairman and current president Alan Turvey.

As 2016 winners, Kingstonian banked £2500 in prize money as well as a share of the profits from the final with Faversham Town who also collected £1500 in prize money as runners-up. Losing semi-finalists were awarded £750 while clubs who reached the quarter-finals collect £250.
