Bostik Predictions- The Final Outcome: South Central Division

By Ian Townsend

Supporter representatives from each club have predicted the outcome of the South Central Division. So who do they think will win?

As you will hopefully have noticed, during the last month we’ve been publishing supporter previews of the forthcoming season. Every preview has included a predicted top five- but we haven’t only been asking the supporters involved to predict who will win the title and finish in the playoff positions, we’ve been asking them to forecast the entire division. The results of those predictions have been worked into a league table- so eyes down, look in, and here are the results of the South Central Division jury!

This seasons Bostik South Central Division pits our sides against opposition who, in many cases, are rather unfamiliar to them- and to their supporters. Such unfamiliarity, you might think, would make prediction difficult. Well if you did think that, you were right- to some degree. The sides placed at the bottom end of the table had so few votes between them that the bottom four were only clearly separated by the last two supporters to take part. At the top end, however, the story was rather different.

Your clear favourites for the title were Hayes and Yeading United. Their exploits in narrowly missing out on promotion last season had obviously not been missed, and more than half of you were convinced that, come the end of this campaign, the ribbons on the trophy would be red and black. The play off places also came rather easily to you- there was a chasm between fifth place Waltham Abbey and sixth place Westfield. You placed Craig Edward’s Cheshunt in the runners-up spot, closely followed by Tooting & Mitcham United and Bracknell Town.

At the wrong end, you predicted a long goodbye for FC Romania when we haven’t even said hello properly yet! You also saw the Bostik demise of Molesey, which was rather less of a surprise after only the dreadful form of Shoreham kept them safe last season- but the Moles would point out that they have a much changed squad and a new manager and would expect to do much better this time around. You also felt that Ware, Ashford Town and Chipstead would be nervously looking over their shoulders for much of the campaign.

By the way, our #bostikmatchday feature on Saturday will be between the sides you placed fourth and fifth, as we head to Larges Lane where the Robins entertain the Abbotts.

Thanks again to all those supporters who took part in the predictions this year. Approximately 70% of our clubs were represented, which is superb, and a substantial increase on last year. But remember, this is just for fun. Please don’t hold grudges against those who felt your side would struggle, and please don’t go out and bet your house on any of the predicted outcomes actually coming true!
