Leatherhead and Guernsey seal victory on a cold Wednesday night

The Leatherhead resurgence continued against Burgess Hill Town at Fetcham Grove, the Tanners recording their third victory in a row to move up to fourteenth in the table.

Leatherhead opened the scoring in the nineteenth minute. A game of head tennis on the edge of the Burgess Hill box finally saw the ball fall to Jerry Amoo at the right hand side of the area. Whether his effort was a cross or a shot remains unknown, but whatever it was the ball was whipped across with pace and ended up in the Hillians net.

The second came ten minutes from time. A well-worked move saw a cross to the back post, and Shaun Okojie rose above the defence to head home.

Burgess Hill had been in good form recently, winning two of their last three, but there was no way back for Simon Wormull's men, and the Tanners rubbed salt into their wounds with a third goal six minutes from time, Amoo finding himself completely unmarked twelve yards out and with time to roll the ball past Josh James. The keeper berated his defence, as well he might, but the damage was done. Hill also weren't helped by the sending off of Ibrahim Diallo twelve minutes from time, his first action after entering the fray as a substitute being to dive into a tackle which saw the referee produce a straight red card.

In the South East Division, Herne Bay were looking for their second win of the season as they travelled to Guernsey, and they got off to a flyer as Bradley Schafer put them ahead in the 6th minute.

Sadly for Bay their lead lasted only until the 23rd minute, when Carlos Canha met an inviting cross from Charlton Gauvain to level, and although Schafer managed to strike a shot against the bar shortly afterwards it looked as if the game would end in a draw. But the points were destined to remain in the Channel Islands, as Will Fazakerley poached a last minute winner to send the Green Lions up to fifteenth.
