Isthmian XI win the veterans cup

By Ian Townsend

Some familiar faces played out yesterdays Veterans Final at Aveley FC- and one ended up running the line!

Middlesex Wanderers yesterday lost for the first time in four years as they were comprehensively despatched by an Isthmian Select XI, managed by East Thurrock boss John Coventry- who even ended up on the field! Three to the good at half time, our side added three more second half goals to end up with a scoreline even more impressive than that managed by Bury Town the previous day.

The headline image is of John Coventry being handed the cup by Craig Johnson. Bostik board member involvement didn't end there, because- as you can see from the other image- Chairman Nick Robinson ended up playing the role of Referee's Assistant after one of the scheduled officials failed to arrive. We can conclusively reveal that there is no truth in the rumour that he should have gone to Specsavers!

Our thanks to all who made the occasion so memorable.

That was never offside, you don't know what you're doing linesman...!
