Dorking Wanderers have begun the move to their new home ground at Meadowbank.
As the summer migration gets underway for the club’s expanding community-wide operation, trials have been held in the past week on the state-of-the-art artificial pitch for local Under 18 and Development players, while the Academy, combining football with education, has moved into a classroom in the stadium complex from where it's a short walk to move from academic learning to training.
With building work on the Dorking Wanderers clubhouse due for completion within days, the first team operation will follow to the ground soon. The club expects shortly to be able to announce the confirmed date for a grand summer opening event and the first game, along with opening details for the lounge, bar and Healthy Kitchen eatery which will cater for the whole of the town.
The new home at Meadowbank brings an end to eleven years of Dorking senior football at Westhumble, with Wanderers sending their old home off in style as they thrashed Bostik Premier League rivals Lowestoft 8-0 in the last game at the ground in late April.
Life at the new ground will begin with a celebrity event aimed at all local families to celebrate the building of the new multi-million pound facility and the return of football to Meadowbank which has been the historic home of Dorking football since the original ground opened in 1953.
That will be followed by a pre-season friendly against high profile opponents, as the first Dorking Wanderers game, before competitive league action kicks off in the stadium in August.
