Wanderers made to wait

Meadowbank opening delayed

Dorking Wanderers have been advised by Mole Valley District Council that the opening of their new Meadowbank Stadium has been delayed. The club, who were due to play their first match at the venue on 27th February- the Mole Valley derby against Leatherhead- have announced that this will still be its opening fixture, only a month later than scheduled. The stadium will now open on 27th March.

In a statement released yesterday, the club explained:

‘The stadium at Meadowbank is a major new sports and leisure complex in the town and, as such, its construction has been full of complex timelines. The project managers at Mole Valley District Council have made their very best efforts to keep to schedule so we can move in and play our opening game at the ground this month but, unfortunately, it is no longer been possible for them to achieve that.

The good news is that the Mole Valley derby with Leatherhead will still be our first fixture at the new stadium after it opens in March. Holding the match between Mole Valley’s two top clubs as our first game at Dorking’s new home ground has really captured the imagination of the local community and the wider public. Ticket sales have been extraordinary and there’s no doubt we’ll be hosting a packed capacity crowd on the night.

In light of that interest, although the Meadowbank complex is expected to be open a little earlier in March, we have taken the decision to wait until the end of that month to reschedule this first fixture. This will guarantee our state-of-the art new home stadium has been fully tested and is running smoothly in time for the Mole Valley derby and its record breaking attendance.

We’re grateful to the Bostik League and Leatherhead for their co-operation with the rescheduling.’

All tickets purchased for the match with Leatherhead will remain valid for the rearranged fixture, but if any ticket holders cannot make the revised date refunds will be issued- please visit dorkingwanderers.com for more information. The match against Billericay Town, also scheduled for Meadowbank, will now be played at Westhumble- and will no longer be all-ticket.
