Your favourite Bostik away ground- here are the results!

By Ian Townsend

The people have spoken...and your favourite Bostik away ground is...

What makes a great away ground? Is it history, burgers or beer? Is it ease of access, enclosed terraces allowing the generation of noise, or the fact that your team always wins there? Or is it simply the quality of the welcome?

Over the last month we’ve asked supporters from all of our Bostik League clubs to answer questions about their experiences from last season, their hopes for the coming campaign, and which away ground they most like to visit. Well the results are in, and we are delighted to announce the favourite ground for away supporters below:

Bostik Premier Division: Dulwich Hamlet
Bostik North Division: Bury Town
Bostik South Division: Lewes

In the Premier Division Hamlet’s Champion Hill was rated the best for two particular reasons- the quality of the welcome and the quality of the atmosphere. Runners up were Folkestone Invicta, with Leatherhead and Thurrock also highly rated.

In the North Division the contest was more closely fought, with Bury Town coming out just ahead of Canvey Island and AFC Sudbury. The delights of Ram Meadow were highly regarded, in the main for the quality of the atmosphere and the historical delights of the stadium- whereas Canvey’s chief claim to fame seems to be that you can watch ships from the terraces!

In the South Division there was hardly a contest. Lewes came out so far in front that if Darren Freeman could get his side to perform as well as the ground they play in they’d be a certainty for promotion! The Dripping Pan was enormously well regarded, even voted for as a favourite by fans of teams in the Premier Division who- of course- didn’t get to visit last season. Reasons given included the beauty of the surroundings but just as often mentioned the quality of the welcome. Guernsey also scored well- it seems you like flying to football, and you like the people when you arrive.

Overall favourite Bostik away destination: Lewes FC
