Cheshunt crowned community champions

Ambers honoured for their community work- twice!

Two awards ceremonies. Two days. Two trophies.

One club.

Cheshunt FC had a mixed week on the pitch but a magnificent week off it, as they were crowned Community Club of the Year at the Active Broxbourne Sports Awards on Tuesday last- before being named runners-up in the Community Club category at the Herts Sports Partnership Service to Sports Awards the following night.

The club was nominated by individuals living, working or playing sport in the Borough, with their football, education and social awareness projects being voted worthy of honour. These include disability football schemes, a college programme and a partnership with Network Rail to deliver rail safety messages, as well as their Community Cup day. This event was held on 27th July in memory of 16-year old Robbie Lea, who tragically drowned in a lake at the Lee Valley Park in May, and saw hundreds of local residents come together to watch Cheshunt FC play matches against local clubs Harlow Town FC and Hertford Town FC. Spurs Ladies conducted a training session on site too, and the day raised over £1000 to help fund an awareness campaign to educate people about the dangers of swimming in open water.

Speaking after the events, Ambers Chair Dean Williamson stated:

“We are delighted that the work we have been doing in the community has been recognised at these awards events. Community is at the heart of everything we do and our coaches, staff and volunteers help to make our club a fun and safe environment for everyone to enjoy. Our football, educational and social awareness programmes that we run mean that we are reaching out to more and more people within our community and we are fulfilling our moto - One Community. One Club.”

Congratulations from all at the Bostik League to all at Theobalds Lane.
