Next generation meeting in final

By David Watters

The next generation of stars at Tonbridge Angels and Whitehawk are going head-to-head tonight to become the Ryman League's 2017 Lucas Fettes Youth Cup kings!

After seeing their senior stars beaten by Ryman Premier rivals Billericay Town in the final of the Alan Turvey Trophy sponsored by Robert Dyas last week, fans of the promotion-chasing Angels will be hoping their U18s can overcome their opposite numbers from National League South Whitehawk in Thursday night's showpiece final at Whyteleafe's Church Road.

Kicking off at 7.30pm on the state-of-the-art artificial turf surface at the home of Ryman South 'Leafe, the fixture sees the finalists bidding to follow in the footsteps of 2016 winners Staines Town who lifted the prestigious trophy last April after beating Ashford United 4-3 at Sutton United's Gander Green Lane.

To reach the final, the club's youngsters romped to a 5-0 victory at Woking in their semi-final after overcoming Merstham on penalties in the last eight following a titanic 4-4 draw at their Longmead Stadium in Kent.

Sussex representatives Whitehawk beat Eastbourne Borough 2-1 in their semi-final back in February after knocking out Three Bridges with a 3-2 home win in the quarter-finals of the Ryman League's youth cup competition for the 28 clubs competing in the four regional divisions of the U18s Ryman Youth League.

The finalists are both in top form with Whitehawk eight points clear at the top of the South Division and Angels just a point off the top of the East Division.
