Town top the list of Trophy triumphs

By Ian Townsend

It was FA Trophy day yesterday, and a number of our clubs had notable victories. Here's a round up.

In the First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy Mildenhall Town travelled to Kings Lynn, then second in the Evo-Stik South Premier Division, and came away with a magnificent 1-0 victory. Yesterday they travelled north, to Barwell of the Evo-Stik North Premier Division, and did it all over again, Craig Calver getting the winner on the hour mark. But they weren't the only side to pick up a victory against higher level opposition.

Lewes hosted Bishops Stortford of the Evo-Stik South Premier and continued their magnificent run with a 2-0 victory, Charlie Coppola and Billy Medlock doing the damage. Heybridge Swifts headed west for the second weekend in a row, to Dorset this time, where they took on another Evo-Stik South Premier side in Dorchester Town. After falling behind as early as the third minute, Swifts sent their supporters home delighted with two late goals, Sam Bantick and Luke Callander taking them through to the next round.

Brentwood Town also delivered a giant killing, hammering three first half goals to halt Needham market's recent revival. Market were able to pull one back in the second half, but it proved only to be a consolation.

A mention should also go to Potters Bar Town, who travelled to face an in-form Hereford at Edgar Street and came away with a creditable 0-0 draw in front of 1,368 supporters. The Hereford hordes will come to the Pakex on Tuesday night. There was also an enthralling draw between Sittingbourne and Haringey Borough, and you can read more about that here.

A full list of results can be found here, and we'll bring you the draw for the next round as soon as we have it.
