County honour club and stalwarts

By David Watters

Wroxham's chairman and two stalwarts at the Ryman North's Yachtsmen have been collecting awards to honour their long service and mark the club's 125th anniversary.

Norfolk County FA chief executive Shaun Turner is pictured at Trafford Park after presenting Yachstsmen chairman Kevin Attree with a commemorative plaque to mark the foundation of the club back in 1892 and local legends Pat Penn and Alan Royall with 50 year long service awards.

Named back in October as winners of the Norfolk FA's 2016 accolades, the stalwarts collected their honours for services to the club and local football before last weekend's 2-1 reverse at home to Romford after being given a guard of honour on to the pitch by the players of both sides and match officials.

Penn has served Wroxham FC since moving to the area in 1954 and was awarded a testimonial earlier this season. As well as being the club's president and trustee, he also serves as a committee member and first team kit man.

Royall joined the Yachtsmen in 1960 after completing his National Service in the RAF. As well as serving as chairman, committee member, trustee and groundsman for many years, he has also been the vice-president of the Anglian Combination.

Wroxham, who first joined the Ryman League back in 2012 after reaching the FA Vase final in 2010, were established in 1892 by G. E. Preston, a former captain of the Norfolk County team, and initially played on Wroxham Park before moving to Trafford Park after World War II.
