Hot-shot sets sights on promotion

By David Watters

Former Ryman League Golden Boot winner Jason Hallett is vowing to fire Cheshunt to promotion after extending his contract with the Ryman North's Ambers.

Hallett, who top scored in Ryman North in 2015-16 and led the Hertfordshire club's goal-scoring charts last season with 29 goals, is set to be joined by a host of new signings at Theobalds Lane in the coming days.

Pictured in action, the striker told the club's fans he couldn't be feeling more positive about their prospects for the 2017-18 season in a statement on the club's website announcing he'd committed to the coming campaign.

The hot-shot said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have this matter sorted out and to be able to focus on the season ahead. The club have been superb with me and have helped me through a really rough time with injuries. That kind of loyalty needs to be repaid and I hope I can do that next season.

Reflecting on last season, he added: “We were all disappointed to not be in the play-off positions. We didn’t kick on as we had hoped from the previous year and then some inconsistency crept in. I think we are a better team than we showed and we are determined to show that next season.”

Cheshunt chairman Dean Williamson told fans that re-signing Hallett with no shortage of rivals vying for his services demonstrates the club's growing prestige and signals their determination to challenge for promotion come the big kick-off on Saturday 12 August.

Williamson said: "We’re delighted to have Jason with us again next season. Not only is he a goal machine, he’s also a hardworking and dedicated player with a winning mentality. These are the types of player we want at the club. Like the rest of us, Jason’s excited about the future plans of the club and wants to be a part of the club’s success.”
