Little follows Brown to Wings as number two

Former Burnley, Reading, Sheffield United, Wrexham and Wealdstone midfielder Glen Little was named as the new assistant manager of Welling United on Tuesday after leaving Grays Athletic on Monday night.

The fans favourite, pictured, helped caretaker manager Andy Swallow guide the Blues to a 1-0 victory over Barkingside in the Robert Dyas League Cup before announcing that he was leaving the Ryman Premier club to follow former manager Jody Brown to the Wings.

The 39-year-old joined the Blues at the start of the season as part of Brown's transformation of the squad since taking over in June and had won plenty of admirers from the terraces to the boardroom before moving on to Park View Road to be reunited with Brown following his departure on Saturday.

Little spent eight years at Burnley and then four years at Reading, making more than 400 appearances for the clubs. As a coach, he first impressed looking after Wrexham's reserves – a role he maintained while playing and reaching both the FA Trophy and Football Conference play-off finals in the same season.

* Caretaker manager Swallow boosted his striking options on Monday with the signing of Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson from Hereford United.

The 19-year-old was snapped up by Leicester City as a youngster before moving to Sheffield Wednesday at the age of 16.

Before his release in 2013 he featured twice for Northern Ireland's under-19 side and signed his first professional contract for St Johnston in Scotland in September 2013. The forward returned to England in the summer of 2014, joining now defunct Hereford on a six-month deal to play in the EVO-STIK League Southern.
