Third time lucky for hot-shot

Striker Gavin Gordon believes he can form a lethal partnership with Elliott Romain after joining Three Bridges from Ryman South rivals Redhill.

Gordon, pictured, was part of a swap deal between the two clubs that saw Marcus Elliott join the Lobsters last week. And the new Bridges recruit says it was his decision to leave the Surrey club.

Gordon told the Crawley News: "I really enjoyed my time at Redhill and that's why I stayed there for so long but I think it was time for a fresh start. I wasn't really playing at Redhill, I was spending too much time on the bench.

"At the start of the season I was playing well alongside Richmond Kissi, I thought it was a good partnership, but then circumstances changed. They changed the formation and, unfortunately, I ended up on the bench."

The much-travelled striker, who's previously played for Merstham, Crowborough Athletic, Worthing, Horsham YMCA, East Grinstead Town and Ringmer, is delighted to get another chance to play for his home-town club.

"This is third time lucky," explained Gordon. "I signed papers for Bridges a few years ago but then decided to join Horsham YMCA instead. And there was another time we spoke about me signing as well, but this time I actually made it on to the pitch for Bridges."

Gordon made his debut last Saturday night in a 1-1 draw at Guernsey. Now he's looking forward to more game time alongside young forward Romain.

He said: "I've seen him play many times but I'd not played with him before Saturday. He's a good young player and I think we will be a good partnership; I think I'll be able to hold the ball up for him and get a few flick-ons to him."

Bridges are currently in the wrong half of the table but Gordon is confident they have the ability to start climbing ahead of Saturday's clash at home to Leatherhead in Ryman South.

He added: "It's a very young side with an experienced core of players. I think, from what I saw on Saturday night, it's a competitive team that can push up the table. I was impressed."
