Transfer Deadline Day- the highlights!

By Ian Townsend

OK, transfer deadline day doesn't really affect us. But we did have some transfers! And some football!

Yesterday whilst Premier League clubs were spending one hundred and fifty million pounds on last minute transfer deals, our clubs spent approximately the cost of a weekly shop in Asda (other supermarkets are available)- a clear demonstration that if you're really looking for sanity in the football world you need to look lower! But there was some transfer action in the Bostik League- and an important Essex derby- so here's a round up!

Kingstonian manager Leigh Dynan played the Harry Redknapp role, signing former Farnborough/Havant & Waterlooville striker Nic Ciardini from Hartley Wintney whilst leaning out of a Range Rover (no, not really). Nic had only been at 'The Row' for a month so had hardly had time to unpack his boots, and will be thrust immediately into the K's squad for the match against Tooting & Mitcham United at the weekend. More news here.

Sam Allardyce was played by Dorking Wanderers manager Marc White, who loaned striker Tom Tolfrey and midfielder Anthony Oaks to Horsham- managed, coincidentally, by Marc's Back of the Net Radio Show colleague Dom Di Paola. Both players move to the Bostik South club to build up their fitness following injury, but Tolfrey- who recently signed a new contract at Wanderers- goes only for a month, whilst Oaks will remain at Culver Road for the rest of the season. More news on these moves can be found here.

Hendon had some transfer news to report yesterday, but don't worry Greens fans, it wasn't Niko Muir- instead the departure was that of Dagenham & Redbridge loanee Joe White. The Daggers recalled the player so that they could sell him to Stevenage. More news on that move can be found here.

Billericay Town brought a League Two player in on loan- Calum Butcher from Mansfield Town. Calum started the season at Millwall before moving to Mansfield, and after Stags manager Steve Evans decided that he didn't fit into his plans the player was unable to join another Football League club on loan, rules stating that he can only play for two during one season. At this Harry Wheeler and Glenn Tamplin moved in, and Butcher should prove a very useful addition as the Blues continue to chase success in League and cup competitions. More news on that move here.

Folkestone Invicta managed to get a signing under the radar (meaning- we missed it) in bringing in Hythe Town full back Jerald Aboagye- more on that story here.

And finally, some actual football! AFC Hornchurch last night went THIRTEEN points clear at the top of the North Division with a crushing six-nil victory at Romford. Theo Fairweather-Johnson fired home a first half hat trick, added to by Bradley Warner to put the Urchins 4-0 up by half time, and then in the second half Christian Assombalonga rubbed salt in the wounds by adding two more. Romford remain in twenty-third place, two points above bottom side Cheshunt.
