Wanderers take the summit

Dorking hit the heights, whilst Robins and Oystermen make the Velocity Trophy headlines

Yesterday was a marvellous day for Dorking Wanderers. They started it by learning that Marc White had picked up the Anderson Travel Manager of the Month Award for the Premier Division, and then that keeper Slavomir Huk and his miserly defence had won the Samba Sports Golden Gloves Award- then last night capped all of that by climbing to the top of the league.

Visitors Potters Bar Town were themselves in good form, having won their previous three matches, but they were swept aside at Meadowbank in a first half which saw Wanderers score four goals- and talisman striker Jason Prior grab a hat trick. Prior struck in the 3rd, 14th and 38th minutes, and although in between his second and third goals Keegan Cole had pulled one back for the Scholars, Luke Moore had grabbed another for Dorking, too. The second half saw no additions to the scoreline, so that match ended 4-1- and the home side went one point ahead of previous leaders Tonbridge Angels to take over at the summit.

The lead may change again tonight, however, as Angels travel to Kingstonian- but with the K's now one of the in-form sides in the Division the Kent side may find it difficult to come away with a victory- and they'll need one, as a draw will see Wanderers stay top on goal difference. That match kicks off at 7.45 PM- and Mick Sullivan and Gary Pascoe will be providing live commentary via Twitter if you can't make it to King George's Field.

In the Velocity Trophy a late, late Carl Davies goal gave Bracknell Town a 1-0 victory at Egham Town, whilst Whitstable Town had a far more convincing success, second half goals from Tom Walmsley (2), Ricky Freeman and Tom Bryant giving them a 4-1 win, despite Philipp Brown-Bampoe's seventh minute opener for Greenwich Borough.

Whilst we don't normally report on County Senior Cup ties, we're going to make two exceptions. Hayes & Yeading United continued their fabulous form by walloping Premier Division high flyers Enfield Town 4-1 at the Skyex in the Middlesex County Cup, whilst at the Broadfield Stadium League Two Crawley Town were dumped out of the Sussex Senior Cup by Haywards Heath Town, who defeated a side with a number of senior players 3-1.
