Ex-Hammer named as new manager

By David Watters

Leigh Dynan has been unveiled as the new manager of Ryman South Whyteleafe.

Named on Monday as the successor to John Fowler following his departure two weeks ago, Dynan, pictured, is set to meet the Leafe squad at training this week before taking charge for the first time on Saturday at high-flying Dorking Wanderers.

As a player, the 43-year-old was on the books at West Ham until a knee injury forced him to step down to play at Non-League level for Fisher Athletic, Carshalton Athletic and Walton Casuals.

Dynan took his first steps in management at the helm of Combined Counties League outfit Cobham before joining Farnborough in 2012 as reserve team manager and becoming assistant manager later that year.

Officials at Church Road say Dynan, who left the Southern League club in September, expects to name his touchline team later this week.

In a statement announcing his appointment, the new Leafe boss said: "It is a privilege to be given the job at Whyteleafe and I am excited to be joining such a highly respected and professionally run club.

"My ideas and ambition match those of the club and I’m looking forward to bringing a level of success that ensures that players, fans and everybody involved in the running of the club is proud to be a part of Whyteleafe FC."

Fowler and his number two Dean Davenport have called it a day after Leafe's 5-2 defeat at Ramsgate, a sixth league reverse of the season that left their side sitting 19th in the table.

Since Fowler's departure after three years at the helm, caretakers Rob Smith and Danny Rose have lifted the club into mid-table with two wins and a draw from four league outings.
