Bostik Supporters Predictions 18/19: Heybridge Swifts

Josh Longman talks us through a marvellous campaign, and looks forward to doing it all again

We asked supporters of our Bostik League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

After his experiences of last season, Heybridge Swifts fan Josh had lots to say!

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Josh of Heybridge Swifts

Josh of Heybridge Swifts

Where do I start? So many good moments it's hard to choose. The 3-2 win against Hampton & RIchmond in the FA Trophy was incredible, so was the 4-2 win at Haringey in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round. Maidstone away in the FA Trophy Second Round was great fun also. But the best moment has to be Exeter away in the FA Cup 1st Round Proper, the experience, atmosphere and hospitality were amazing, and it's something I will never forget.

2. And your worst moment?

Probably the play-off semi final defeat to Haringey. That was really painful to watch, especially after how well we'd done to even get there, losing like that was difficult. But we didn't expect to even get there after the season we had in 16/17 so It wasn't as painful as it could've been.

3. How will you do this season?

I'm not actually sure. The division is just as difficult as last year so It's hard to say. I'm hoping by christmas we're in the top half, and by the end in the top 5. But where I want us to finish is 1st.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Several actually. I'm looking forward to the Coggeshall and Witham games. Coggeshall because they are obviously new, but ambitious, so I'd like to see how they fare against experienced sides like us, and Witham because they're now as big a rival as Maldon, and we also love James Beardwell. Then away games at Felixstowe and Basildon will be nice. Felixstowe because I haven't been there for a little while and it looks like an interesting place to visit, and then Basildon because they have a group of fans that sing, and us in the BAWA love a bit of competition.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Has to be Bury Town again this season. The fact you can create some great noise under the two terraces is handy for us, and looks wise is just pleasing to look at. Almost the perfect non-league ground.
6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Maldon have always been our rivals because of geography, but the problem is now that they don't really have a comparable fan base to us (no offence). That's why Witham and Coggeshall can be classed as bigger rivals because Beardwell at Witham is starting to get people singing with him, and Coggeshall do have a fairly big fan base. So our biggest rivals I think are now Witham.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

I'd go into the clubhouse and buy yourself a drink from our very popular and successful bar (not to brag), find fellow supporters and just have a chat before the game.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Just like last year, It has to be current striker Luke Callander. Has scored bucket loads of goals in his two spells at the club, this being his second, since 2009/10. His loyalty and passion for the club is also a reason why he can be classed as a legend.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Heybridge Swifts, Bowers & Pitsea, Canvey Island, AFC Sudbury, Maldon & Tiptree
