Moatsiders announce prestigious friendly

Merstham are to go inter-continental!

Last night Hayden Bird's side, who are currently on course for the highest league finish in their history, as they sit in fourth place in the Bostik Premier Division, announced a prestigious friendly- with a Vancouver Whitecaps XI the visitors to Moatside on Tuesday 2nd April.

Whitecaps currently sit in eleventh place in the Western Division of Major League Soccer, having lost their opening three matches. That isn't too surprising, as their squad saw sixteen changes over the close-season, including the loss of winger Alphonso Davies to Bayern Munich- fans of the Bundesliga might have noticed that he scored the Bavarian giants' sixth goal in the rout of Mainz at the weekend.

There are two Englishmen in their current squad- former Coventry City and Motherwell midfielder Andy Rose, and former Swiss international- he has dual English/Swiss nationality- yet Enfield born defender Scott Sutter. Scott came through the youth ranks at Millwall, Barnet, Aston Villa and Charlton Athletic before heading to Switzerland, where he played for Grasshopper and Young Boys before heading to the USA. If you are of a certain age you might recall their successful side of the 1970's, which featured- amongst others- former England World Cup Winner Alan Ball.

The match will kick off at the usual 7.45 PM. As yet we have no details on admission prices.
