Non League Day- date announced

By Ian Townsend

The date for the annual Non League football jamboree has been confirmed...

It has been confirmed that Non League Day 2018 will be on Saturday 13th October. We thought we'd tell you now just to give you some time to plan your activities!

In order to get you in the mood and perhaps give you a few tips, this is what happened across our League on the last Non League Day, 7th October last year:

  • AFC Sudbury let all under elevens in for free to their FA Trophy match against Aylesbury United, gave them the chance to meet the players, have a tour of the stadium and be part of a guard of honour.
  • Billericay Town let all supporters in fancy dress into their match against Hendon for half price.
  • Burgess Hill Town took on Lowestoft Town, and reduced ticket prices by half, with under 18's Free.
  • Corinthian Casuals hosted a charity crossbar challenge after their match against AFC Dunstable. All supporters were able to pay a small fee and have a go, and the money raised went to Prostate Cancer UK.
  • Dulwich Hamlet made Non League Day a ‘Pay What You Like’ event for their match against Needham Market. And whatever was paid went to charity.
  • Enfield Town hosted Margate, and for £20 offered under 13's coaching, a stadium tour, a chance to meet the players and to take part in a guard of honour. The accompanying parent got in free.
  • Grays Athletic celebrated youth! Joining them on the day were their Under 10’s, who trained on the pitch before the game (1-1.45pm) before walking out as mascots with the first team.
  • Merstham FC had £5 entry for all season ticket holders of Premier League/Football League clubs, a barbecue, a 'Beat the Goalie' competition, a free raffle for a signed ball, a 'Seat Sit Challenge' (no, we've no idea either!), a Karaoke night and a collection for Prostate Cancer UK.
  • Metropolitan Police hosted two matches, as prior to the league match versus Folkestone Invicta Chelsea supporters group We Are The Shed took on a Non-League Supporters and Ex-Players XI. In addition, players from all teams involved wore t-shirts recognising Kick It Out and Fans For Diversity during the pre-match warm up, with supporters in attendance given badges, stickers, wristbands and fan clappers.
  • Tonbridge Angels provided football for a fiver as they entertained Wingate and Finchley. Under 13's got in free when accompanied by a paying adult.
  • Tooting and Mitcham United offered free admission to all Premier League and Championship season ticket holders for their match against Worthing.

Now your club- of course- can do something entirely different, but get your thinking caps on! October will be here almost before you can blink!

Have a marvellous summer.
