Tanners march on...but it's a night of mixed fortunes in the cup

By Ian Townsend

Leatherhead through, Horsham, Hanwell and Dorking out- and we have a round up of Bostik League and Velocity Trophy action

And then there were three. After last night's replays only Leatherhead will join Worthing and Haringey Borough in the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup- and the Tanners had to do it the hard way, defeating Bostik South Central Division Hanwell Town on penalties after a goal-free tie.

Dorking Wanderers entertained National League South Gloucester City, and if anyone thought they'd done the hard work after Saturday's 3-3 draw away from home they were to be proved mistaken, as City emerged from last night's tie at Meadowbank with a 3-0 victory. On the Dorset coast Horsham were hoping to earn the right to visit Haringey Borough in the next round, but despite taking the lead through Harvey Sparks the home side fought back, and it is Poole Town who will be taking the trip to Coles Park.

In the Premier Division Corinthian-Casuals earned a vital win at home to Whitehawk, second half goals from Warren Mfula and Gabriel Odunaike the difference. That's three defeats in a row for the Hawks, a first win in four for Casuals.

We had two matches in the South East Division, and Phoenix Sports climbed to second place with a 4-2 win at Herne Bay. They didn't have it all their own way, going into the interval level after Thomas Carlton had equalised Jack Barry's opener, but pulled clear in the second half, with goals from Ashley Probets, Lee Bird and Alfie Aldridge. Jack Embery notched a spot kick for Bay.

Faversham Town and East Grinstead Town ended all square, and locked together in mid table on eleven points. Both goals came in the last ten minutes, Daniel Carrington opening the scoring for Faversham, before Mitchell Chapman equalised for the Wasps.

There were a number of matches in the Velocity Trophy. In Round One Bowers & Pitsea defeated Premier Division Haringey Borough 3-1, Quentin Monville and Max Cornhill (2) with their goals, whilst Tonbridge Angels defeated Sevenoaks Town 3-0, with two from Jack Richards and one from Alex Read. Egham Town were 2-1 victors over Whyteleafe, whilst Whitstable Town kept up their fine form of late with a 2-0 win at Ramsgate.

In the Second Round Burgess Hill Town must wish they could play in cup competitions every week, as they picked up only their third win of the campaign- each of which have been in knockout football. Tooting and Mitcham United went down 2-0 at the Green Elephants Stadium, Henry Watson and Pat Harding with the goals.

Elsewhere Bishop's Stortford defeated Tilbury 8-7 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, and there were spot kicks at the Skyex too, as Hayes & Yeading United defeated Premier Division Potters Bar Town 5-4 after a 2-2 draw. United had been two goals to the good in that tie (Lewis Toomey and Scott Bridges), but two second half goals from Michael Murray had taken it to deadlock. Goals from Tevan Allen and Aaron Condon gave Coggeshall Town- featuring former Heybridge Swifts star Sam Bantick- victory at Premier Division AFC Hornchurch, whilst Maldon & Tiptree defeated Witham Town 1-0.
