Fingers crossed for cup hopefuls!

By David Watters

The Ryman League's two surviving flag-bearers in the Emirates FA Cup are keeping their fingers crossed for lucrative ties in Monday night's televised draw for the first round proper.

The fans, players and officials of Merstham and Harrow Borough will be looking out for balls 79 and 74 respectively when the draw is broadcast live on BBC2 and BT Sport 1. Both programmes start at 7pm with the draw expected to start at approximately 7.10pm.

To make it into the hat, Merstham beat Ebbsfleet United 2-1 while Harrow Borough must go again this week after drawing 2-2 with Margate at Earlsmead at the weekend.

After collecting £12,500 as fourth qualifying round winners for the second season in a row, the Moatsiders and Ryman Premier rivals Boro if they make it through, are in the running to bank another £18,000 in prize money as well as televised ties.

The first round proper is due to be played over the weekend of Saturday November 5 and Sunday November 6 with 80 clubs going into the hat - the 32 winners of last weekend's fourth qualifying round plus the 48 teams from League One and League Two.

Neutrals will be keeping an eye out for ball number 62 of Hereford-based Westfields FC, the lowest ranked side left in the competition from the Midland Football League.
