FOREST ARE GOING HOME

By Kellie Discipline

The Waltham Forest FC committee are delighted to announce that the will be returning to their Wadham Lodge home for the 2013/14 season, after five long seasons on the road.

A lease agreement has been signed with MatchDay Centres – who are currently running Wadham Lodge – and the club would like to thank MatchDay for giving us the opportunity to return to the borough of Waltham Forest.

The club had been living on borrowed time while playing outside the borough, and it was clear for everyone to see that the club’s support, reputation and standing in the community had take a considerable hit.

This move back to the Lodge will give the club the opportunity to re-establish themselves as the premier sports team in the borough, and start to recreate former glories.

It is at this stage the that the club would like to thank the time, patience and hard work of a number of people: Jason Maguire of MatchDay Centres for his continued efforts, Nick Robinson and the rest of the Isthmian League committee for sanctioning the move, and Turgut Esendagli and Tony Brazier, without whose work over the last four months, we would not have been able to field a side this season, let alone return to the borough.

We would also like to thank Ilford FC and Witham Town FC, who helped us in our hour of need. Without the assistance of these two clubs (especially Ilford), the club would not have been able carry on.

After some many false dawns in the past few years, this move is especially stratifying. Despite being written off by many, we are showing that there is clearly still some life in the old dog yet.

Though it is still early days, the club is making great strides to grow and develop, starting with the introduction of the Under 21s side, who will feature in the Ryman Youth League, a Veterans team, and the achievement of Charter Standard Status.

The first match back at the Lodge will be the pre-season friendly with Eton Manor on Wednesday 31st July, followed by the friendly with Potters Bar Town on Wednesday 6th August. Our first competitive home match is on the 10th of August, at home to VCD Athletic
