Former Spurs physio steps down

Ware Chairman Mike Varney, physio at Spurs in the 1970s, has stood down at the Ryman North's Blues.

Blues fan Varney, pictured, who runs a number of physiotherapy clinics in Enfield and Harlow, cited personal reasons for standing down at Wodson Park on Wednesday.

Ware, who've appointed Vice-Chairman Aiden Mynott as their interim Chairman, say they regret but understand Varney's decision after the impact he's had and hope he takes up an offer to become the club's Vice-President.

A spokesman said: "Mike has been chairman for eighteen months during which time he has galvanised the club into greater discipline and organisation in the way it runs itself off the field. The club is fortunate that Mike wishes to continue to be involved and it is hoped that he will do this through the position of Vice-President.

"The Chairman's role will be filled temporarily by the Vice-Chairman and the club are now hoping to appoint a permanent Chairman who recognises the potential of the facilities in place to achieve its potential."
