Free family fun day at Fullicks!

Ryman South leaders Folkestone Invicta are looking forward to hosting their second 'family day' at the Fullicks Stadium when they kick off against Peacehaven & Telscombe next month.

A crowd of more than a thousand saw Neil Cugley's side beat Chipstead on their way to securing the runners-up spot in the league in April when they staged their first event and club officials are hoping for a similar, if not bigger turnout when they host the Sussex club on Saturday 21 November.

Cugley is the driving force behind the initiative to offer free entry to fans and instead invite them to make a donation towards research into Motor Neurone Disease after sadly seeing its effects at first hand.

The Invicta manager said: "It’s a cause very close to my heart and to my wife Pauline as well. Mark Stanton, who played for me at Ashford Town lost a fairly long, brave battle with the disease when he sadly passed away just over two years ago, and my wife Pauline’s best friend Carol March is suffering from it now.

“Mark was a great guy, and, like Carol, one of the nicest people you could ever know. When it happens to people like that you realise just how unkind life can sometimes be.”

After recording an attendance of 1,052 in April that included plenty of younger fans, a number of the attractions for children are being laid on including a bouncy castle and face-painting.

Cugley added: “It would be great if we can get close or even beat the crowd we had back in April, and let’s hope that we can - it is all for such a brilliant cause.”

* Invicta officials have called vandals who broke into Cheriton Road last weekend and damaged a toilet block "mindless idiots".

The damage could cost as much as £2000 to put right after basins were ripped out and a urinal was smashed before the debris was used to block a number of toilets. Signs above the club shop were also broken and further damage was caused to the home dugout.

A club spokesman said: “To say we are angry is an understatement. The people who did this are mindless idiots.”

Police are hunting the yobs and appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call them on 01843 222289 quoting reference number ZY/032613/15.
