A Suffolk charity is £2,150 better off after nearly 100 golfers teed off in Ryman North Needham Market’s 2014 Golf Day.

The Marketmen’s annual tournament has now raised more than £10,000 in five years for local good causes with Stowmarket-based charity Friends of 7A Finborough Road the latest beneficiary.

Despite not playing himself, the event was organised again by Marketmen secretary Mark Easlea and proud officials at Bloomfields say it has now grown into one of the highlights of the summer locally.

The Friends of 7A Finborough Road Charity was founded to help adults with learning disabilities in and around the Stowmarket area.

Easlea, pictured presenting the cheque to the charity’s Susan Beever, Jane Pearson, David Gilbert and Sylvia Emsden on Saturday before Mark Morsley’s men took on Colchester United, was delighted with the turn-out and success of this summer’s tournament which saw players compete in teams of four at Hintlesham Hall Golf Club.

He said: "This is a great privilege for me to make this award as the charity does some really important work providing respite accommodation for the local community. My family has first-hand experience of the sterling work performed by this hardworking group."

A Marketmen spokesman praised their secretary and the club's sponsors, fans and volunteers for their efforts.

He said: "Although he is not a golfer himself, he works very hard to ensure a successful day is had by all. The football club is grateful for the superb efforts of its secretary and the willingness of its sponsors and friends to support such deserving causes."
