Greens star on standby for England

By David Watters

England C manager Paul Fairclough has put another Ryman League player on standby to join his latest international squad.

Hendon's Oliver Sprague have been named on the list of reserves for the three day England training camp Fairclough is holding at Warwick University from Sunday 27 September to Tuesday 29 September.

Signed from Northwood, the 21-year-old left-back went on trial at League Two Stevenage last season and his call-up sees him become the second Greens player to attract Fairclough's attention this year after the England manager vowed in April to start selecting more players from outside the Football Conference.

He lived up to that promise with weeks, naming defender Charlie Goode, 19, in a new look England C squad to fly the flag for the Ryman League in an International Challenge Trophy win over the Republic of Ireland in June.

The Greens congratulated their player to win international recognition in a statement on their website following news of his call-up on Monday.

A spokesman said: "We are delighted that Ollie Sprague has been called to the England C contingency squad following Charlie Goode's call-up to the main squad at the end of last season. We are sure that all connected with the club are delighted that Ollie is in the thoughts of England C coach Paul Fairclough."
